I went about that completely wrong.

Perhaps stewing in anger for hours on end had taken a toll on my temper. I really had never been madder in my entire life. For a man like Raven Green to take advantage of an angel like Brynn Davis… well, I saw it like it was — a travesty of justice.

Finding out that she was all alone in the world allowed me to get some insight into how the evil man had gotten to her in the first place. He’d been there when her mother died. He’d taken her under his proverbial wing, showing her how to be the best nurse she could be. At least, in her eyes, that’s what she saw.

In his eyes, he saw a young girl who he could take advantage of, emotionally manipulate, and turn into anything he desired. With no family and friends to tell her that he was up to no good, he had no one in his way.

Until I came along.

The man’s plans had been years in the making, and he’d sped them up because of what he saw happening between Brynn and I when we first met. Our relationship may have gotten in the way of his evil plans, but now that Brynn was mad at me and had told me that she was no longer interested, I felt desperate. With me out of the picture, Raven Green could do whatever he wanted to my angel. And that was a thing I could not live with.

I had to make things right.

But how?

Staring at the red lumps of crap I’d been served for dinner, I knew that not only had I lost Brynn, but I’d also lost the chance of her bringing me something good to eat. I wasn’t going to eat the goop in front of me. And I wasn’t going to let Brynn go either.

Somehow, I had to backpedal. I had to explain to her that I’d gone overboard with the things I’d said. I had to make her understand that I simply cared about her and worried about the doctor’s motives where she was concerned.

Time was needed to let her temper chill, though. How much time, I wasn’t sure.

Being that this was our first fight, I had no idea how long it usually took her to cool off. So, I waited an hour. I knew she had to help other patients take their baths. She usually left me for last so that she could spend more time with me than she did with any other patient.

Another hour passed without her coming to see me. Since I now had crutches, she might not have been given orders to help me bathe. So, she might not be coming to check up on me at all.

Unless I hit the nurse’s call button.

Checking the time on my phone, I saw that it was a little after nine. Two hours had gone by since our argument, and I thought that should’ve been enough time for her to have calmed down.
